How to use this word search
Across and down, forwards only. Circle each complete word and cross it off the list. Letters may belong to more than one word.
This bird-themed edition provides ten names in 19-point grid letters, with a 16-point list beneath. Read any unfamiliar bird names before beginning. Forward-only paths keep the searching pattern simple while the vocabulary remains the focus.
After the activity
Choose one bird to look up in a field guide. Compare its shape or habitat with another name from the word list; the puzzle itself is a spelling activity.
Print a clear copy
Choose US Letter for 8.5 × 11-inch paper, or A4 for 210 × 297 mm paper. Both editions contain the same activity and matching answers. Use portrait orientation and actual size. Page 1 is the activity; keep page 2 aside for checking. Print one sample before making classroom copies.
Avoid two pages per sheet: at 100%, the grid uses 19-point letters and the word list uses 16-point text. Print scaling changes those sizes.
