All three use a 10 × 10 grid. Words read left to right or top to bottom; there are no diagonal or backwards answers. The word lists stay below their grids, and each answer page repeats the same letters with a fine outline around each solution.

Print the activities, keep the answers aside

Download the Letter edition for 8.5 × 11-inch paper or the A4 edition for 210 × 297 mm paper. Open the saved file in a PDF reader and choose portrait orientation at actual size. Use a page range of 1–3 to print only the activities. For a single theme, print page 1, 2 or 3; its answer is three pages later. You can save the full file and print another theme next time.

For a class set, make one test copy before printing the whole group. Check that the outer letters, complete word list and source footer are visible. Grayscale printing works: the letters and solution outlines do not depend on color. Avoid two pages per sheet when someone needs a comfortable reading size. If these letters feel small, choose a prepared large print word search instead.

A first search with a little guidance

Start by reading the eight words aloud. Ask the solver to choose one familiar word, then look for its first letter row by row. When they find a possible start, check across and down and follow the whole spelling. Circle the word and cross it off the list. A letter may belong to two different words, so keep crossings readable with a pencil or a light highlighter.

When someone wants help, offer a starting row rather than showing the entire answer. The answer preview can supply that hint; close it before the next attempt. There is no time limit or score to beat. A beginning reader can work with a partner, stop after a few words, or return later. These are easier search patterns, but unfamiliar vocabulary may still need a short explanation.

Use the theme beyond the grid

Garden animals can follow a walk outside: which visitors did you see, and which might be hiding? Pack a picnic can lead into choosing a snack and describing a food. A school day gives readers familiar objects to name, sketch or put into a sentence. The puzzle is a short starting activity rather than a complete lesson. Preview each list and choose the theme that suits the group.

For a mixed group, offer a choice of themes instead of asking everyone to finish together. A solver who wants more directions can move to the medium word searches. If the exact vocabulary matters, use the generator below to enter your own short list. Its quick version also uses forward paths across and down, and the downloaded file includes a separate answer key.

Questions about the easy pack

How many pages are in the easy word search pack?

Six. Pages 1–3 are Garden animals, Pack a picnic and A school day. Pages 4–6 are the matching answers in the same order. Both paper editions contain the same puzzles.

Are any words diagonal or backwards?

No. Each of the three puzzles has eight words in a 10 × 10 grid, reading forwards across or down. Words follow straight lines and can share letters.

Can I download just one of the puzzles?

Yes. Follow the individual-edition link under that preview to its word search collection card. Each single PDF contains that activity and its answer key, in Letter or A4.

May I make copies for a class or tutoring group?

Yes, free copies for your own classroom, home or tutoring group are welcome. Keep the JotOak attribution. Share this page with other groups rather than republishing or selling the files.
