How to use this word search

Across and down, forwards only. Circle each complete word and cross it off the list. Letters may belong to more than one word.

Read the animal names before looking at the letters. Small words such as BEE and ANT make useful first finds; MOUSE and SNAIL ask the reader to follow a longer spelling. Compare each circled path with the list rather than stopping at a familiar beginning.

After the activity

After a garden walk, choose one visitor from the list to draw. Talk about which animals were visible and which might have been hiding beneath a leaf or in the soil.

Print a clear copy

Choose US Letter for 8.5 × 11-inch paper, or A4 for 210 × 297 mm paper. Both editions contain the same activity and matching answers. Use portrait orientation and actual size. Page 1 is the activity; keep page 2 aside for checking. Print one sample before making classroom copies.
